Headache

Headaches are a very common condition that most people will experience many times during their lives. The main symptom of a headache is a pain in your head or face. This can be throbbing, constant, sharp or dull. Headaches can be treated with medication, stress management and biofeedback.

There are more than 150 types of headache. They fall into two main categories: primary and secondary headaches.

Primary headaches

Primary headaches are those that aren’t due to another medical condition. The category includes:

  • Cluster headaches.

  • Migraine.

  • New daily persistent headaches (NDPH).

  • Tension headaches.

Secondary headaches

Secondary headaches are related to another medical condition, such as:

  • Disease of blood vessels in the brain.

  • Head injury.

  • High blood pressure (hypertension).

  • Infection.

  • Medication overuse.

  • Sinus congestion.

  • Trauma.

  • Tumor.

Dr. Tenckhoff uses chiropractic Cox Technic Flexion Distraction and Decompression which is a less invasive means to pain relief as it stretches the neck musculature, reduces disc pressures, and realigns any misaligned spinal segments. Tension headaches that involve tight muscles do well with exercises designed to stretch those muscles. Dr. Tenckhoff recommends some basic at home care tips like sleeping on a supportive pillow and mattress, reducing your exposure to eye straining situations for long periods of time, and exercises among other strategies to deal with your headaches.
