Why You Should Wear Socks to Bed

Has your grandma ever yelled at you to put socks on? In traditional medicine it is very important to keep the body warm to keep it functioning properly. This means staying covered up, especially keeping the feet warm. It turns out there is some science behind this.

1. Temperature Regulation:

A person’s sleep cycle and core body temperature are both managed by their circadian rhythms. Sleep is associated with a drop in core body temperature. Wearing socks has been shown to cause a drop in core body temperature and signal that it is time for sleep.

2. Improved Blood Circulation

When the feet are warm, blood vessels dilate and the blood flows better ensuring that your extreities stay cozy through the night.

3. Deeper Sleep:

Research has shown that wearing socks to bed leads to longer sleep, fewer times waking up throughout the night, greater sleep efficiency, and a shorter time falling asleep.

Wearing socks to bed is a simple science based hack for more restful nights and brighter mornings. Want to learn more about how you can improve your health? Follow my page and head to the link in my bio to set up an appointment.
